Namobuddha Day Tour is arguably the second most famous Day tour packages in Nepal. One of the three major stupas in and around Kathmandu, Namobuddha is located 35km to the east of Kathmandu at an elevation of 1750m. The stupa which is dedicated to the Prince Mahasattva, Namobuddha retains the historical and religious significance. Drive from Kathmandu to Panauti. The scenic Panauti village is said to have been laid on the single stone. Hike from Panauti to Namobuddha. Panauti is the picturesque village of Brahmin and Chhetri ethnics that is famous for its orange production. One can reach Namobuddha from Dhulikhel in 3 hrs of hike. There lies a main stupa at the top of a hill. Near to the stupa exists column of monasteries where you can see Sannyasis busy in doing meditation. The Lamas can be seen reading the scripture.
According to the Buddhist sutra, Mahasattva is taken as the incarnation of Sakyamuni Buddha himself who was reincarnated as the youngest son of King Maharatha. As Mahasattva was passing through the forest he saw a starving tigress with five cubs. Mahasattva was deeply moved with compassion and he fed the tigress with his own flesh. His brothers came looking after him and erected a stupa in memory of the most compassionate deed that anybody has ever done.
